Oh yes fall is almost here!!

Yes, it's now almost fall and I'm finally updating my blog!! Spring brought a hail storm and lots of damage. So instead of concentrating on other people's houses I was calling to get estimates to fix my house. Saddly I am still waiting on repairs. I tell myself it's good to go though this because it helps me to be smypathic with other homeowners.

Now that school is back in session I have been busy working again for wonderful clients!

Christmas Present

A new year and a new outlook! Recently they took the plunge and removed the 70's panneling and popcorn ceiling!! This was a huge undertaking and unlike the makeover shows it took more than a couple of days. I drove down for a 3 day weekend to prime and paint after the demo. After I left they moved ahead with crown molding and new carpet. Next came some new furniture. Once the process is started it's amazing how dingy and tired the old things look.

Now that the new colors were in place now for new art work. The new furniture had reds so I new what I painted must have red in it. I am a sentimental person so I also wanted to paint something meaningful, not abstract.

I prefer painting landscapes so that was a natural choice for me. I have a passion for wildflowers and remembered having pictures of my daughter in a field of of poppies that my late Grandmother Cottrell had planted. It seemed the perfect choice, except the fact that I don't usually paint people, uggh, a little nail biting here! But I'm a firm believer in trying harder thnings than I feel comfortable with in order to grow and improve so I plunged in. I'm really glad I took the time to paint a memory of my grandmother's garden and my daughter for my parents to share and enjoy for years.

And yes my daughter made sure her name was on the back so she'll get it one day!

A fun way to Personalize Kid's Room

I love painting small projects that cost very little and are fun to decorate our houses with. There are so many projects you can do to decorate children’s rooms that are very inexpensive. And what fun to give away items that are made by you!! By the way it’s not too early to start Christmas projects.

One recent trend I’ve noticed is letters and words being hung on the wall, what a statement, yes, pun intended. When I happened to come across these letters at Hobby Lobby for half price I couldn’t resist. They were $1.50 plus tax, who wouldn’t be tempted. So I headed out to the garage to see what I could come up with. I wanted each letter to be fun and different, keeping in mind the likes and dislikes of each child.

The T was for my daughter who has a blue room with silver circles painted on the walls. It shimmers and shines as you walk past.

This M was for my son, who picked out this stencil for his room, vroom…

This is for a glamorous “Paris” room, black with silver accents, you should see the smile on her face.

L was for a charming girl who has zebra stripe accents in her lime green room.

Did I mention all the girls are wild for lime green and turquoise? It doesn’t have to be complicated, simply fun works too. Maybe a little glitter paint brushed over to give it more bling?

Although most of these I used a new “foil” product on that makes the coolest metallic finishes ever, there are several ways to make unique letters that your personalize your home. When you're out shopping and see a bargin, open your mind to fun possiblities. I've seen these also decorated with scrapbook papers and ribbons glued on, great idea for anyone afraid of paint.

Here's my green idea - I’m rummaging around the garage looking at old frames and other unfinished projects to glam up. You can fix up unused objects you'll be proud of.
