One of my favorite places in Piedmont is Bodco, the people there are always welcoming and when I leave I may be a little sore but feel better than when I got there.
Have you had one of those projects that one thing seems to lead to another? Let me tell you about what happened as I was working out at Bodco recently.
First they showed me a “found” mirror, never one to turn down a trash to treasure project I brought it home and went to work.
Then I stripped off this paper and primed, and textured the frame with Venetian plaster, stenciled a flower pattern with plaster, painted dark brown, then crackle glaze, then gold paint, and finally a nice overall brown glaze to finish. (Sounds simple, right?)
Now that the mirror looked so good, the chairs and end table needed work so here we go again.
Luckily all they needed was a fresh coat of spay paint. So after taping off the fabric, I put 2 coats of primer and then 2 coats of a wonderful new (to me at least) hammered metalic paint.
It made a big difference getting the chairs the right color then fabric looked so much better.
Now that the seating area was spruced up, I said “now how about the walls?”
Beckie (smiley face at the desk) and I agreed that a spa like feel would be the best. The finish also needed to be practical and durable. First a chair rail (trim) was installed by a very talented Jack Robinson, let me say the man can cope, that’s my only carpenter joke, I promise.
Under the chair rail I simulated tile by a multi-step process of paint, metallic texture, and glazes. The texture I used is by Goldens, it’s acrylic and very durable. The faux tiles have a look but more importantly a feel of stone.
Above the chair rail I wanted to give the feeling of a sunny day in Piedmont . I choose a sky blue because of the relaxing quality of blue. The paint has white at the bottom like you would see when you look to the horizon. The blue paint is a 1 coat of blue, then the second coat is dark blue at the top then criss crossing with white lime texture glaze and white paint into the bottom area, blending upwards. It's a fun, but time consuming technique, gives each wall a one-of-a-kind look. I love how relaxing blue feels.
I’m really pleased how this project turned out. It’s nice to have work in a place I get to visit so often.
No matter what the day is like out side, it’s always a sunny day when you tan & tone at Bodco.
